Brooks Smith is a Member of the firm's Real Estate team and currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the firm's Real Estate Practice Group. He advises clients in their endeavors related to commercial real estate matters, commercial financing and general business transactions. Brooks represents developers, owners, users, borrowers and lenders in all aspects of commercial real estate development, acquisition, disposition, leasing and financing among all classes of real estate (office, retail, industrial, multi-family, and hospitality, medical and residential developments). Brooks also regularly represents lending institutions in all types of real estate and asset based financings, and has had significant experience advising lenders, and borrowers, in the work-out and restructuring of loans. Brooks' practice also includes general business and commercial law with a focus on legal opinion letters.

Brooks is active in legal, civic and community organizations. He is the current Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association's Real Estate Section and a graduate of the Young Leaders' Council. Brooks dedicates his time and knowledge to a number of organizations including, Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee (past board president), CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), the Land Trust for Tennessee and the Economic Club of Nashville.
Brooks frequently lectures on topics related to commercial real estate and finance, and he is the host of www.dddtn.com, a blog dedicated to “Dirt, Debt and Dollars in Tennessee” concerning real estate and finance matters in Tennessee and around the world.
