David Vance Lucas is well founded in technology law and legal strategy, and blends operational experience with legal advice on intellectual property, compliance (domestic and global), and complex multijurisdictional litigation.
Much of Mr. Lucas' experience was accumulated during his tenure as General Counsel for Intergraph Corporation. Intergraph is a multinational technology company doing business in over 60 countries throughout the world.
Mr. Lucas is credited with Intergraph’s global intellectual property licensing and litigation strategy, which resulted in successful enforcement actions against Intel, Dell, HP, IBM, Texas Instruments and others -- successfully recovering $1 Billion in royalties.
Mr. Lucas has also maintained a US DoD Top Secret Clearance, essential for certain government and security work. Mr. Lucas utilizes his direct working relationships within the Defense Security Service, to assist clients in obtaining and complying with US secret facility clearances.
Mr. Lucas also has extensive experience with other compliance environments – including anti-bribery, export control, privacy, and special security requirements. He advises on the development, implementation and enforcement of compliance programs, as well as the harmonization of US, UK and European regulations.
Mr. Lucas was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Intergraph from 2000 – 2011. While General Counsel, Mr. Lucas helped define and implement Intergraph’s worldwide legal processes, including representing Intergraph in a variety of proceedings throughout the US and abroad.
While General Counsel, Mr. Lucas acted as primary legal advisor to three consecutive CEOs, James Meadlock, Jim Taylor and Halsey Wise. For over a decade Mr. Lucas also advised Intergraph's public and private Boards of Directors, providing advice on an array of legal, strategic and operational issues.
In 2006, Mr. Lucas represented Intergraph in its $1.3 Billion public sale to Texas Pacific Group, Hellman & Friedman, and JMI Equity. In 2010, Mr. Lucas again represented Intergraph in its $2.125 Billion sale to Hexagon Group AB.
Mr. Lucas's experience is underpinned by his legal acumen and credentials. He is a member of the United States Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (U.S. patent appeals) and 11th Circuit, and various U.S. District Courts. He is admitted and licensed to practice in both the state of Alabama and Texas. Based upon his multijurisdictional experience, Mr. Lucas has developed associations with some of the most renowned legal counsel in the world, including having worked with the current U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice, Honorable John Roberts, prior to the Chief Justice's appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.
