Mike chairs the Class Action and Complex Litigation Practice Team, and his primary areas of practice include complex litigation, class action defense, financial services litigation, insurance litigation and general commercial litigation. Much of Mike’s practice is devoted to defending financial services litigation, insurance litigation, and class action litigation not just in Alabama, but throughout the Southeast. His clients include Ally, Inc. and its subsidiaries, Fannie Mae, Torchmark Corporation, Pacific Life Insurance Company, Liberty National Life Insurance Company, Untied American Life Insurance Company, MONY Life Insurance Company, The Principal Financial Group, Great American Insurance Company, Jefferson Pilot Life Insurance Company, AXA-Equitable Insurance Company, United Investors Life Insurance Company, Genworth, Pharmacia, and Monsanto, among others. Mike frequently speaks at seminars around the country on class action litigation and other topics. His most recent speaking engagement was at ACI’s 14th National Conference on Consumer Finance Class Actions & Litigation, which was held in Chicago on July 30-31, 2012.

Experience

Mike has handled class action and mass action litigation, opt-out litigation, financial services litigation, insurance litigation, insurance regulatory proceedings, and arbitration proceedings in a variety of cases across the country including cases in the state and federal courts of Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, Arkansas, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kansas and Kentucky, among others. In addition to defending individual litigation, he has handled the resolution of cases involving hundreds of thousands of class members, thousands of opt out and mass action litigants, and simultaneous mass filings of similar claims in multiple jurisdictions. While much of Mike’s work has been in the area of mortgage servicing litigation, insurance sales practice litigation and other financial services litigation, Mike’s practice has also included dealer disputes, complex commercial contract litigation, toxic tort class actions, securities litigation, and products liability class actions, among other types of litigation.
