Mike Brent's practice focuses primarily on business law, where he represents clients in a wide range of transactional, regulatory and operational matters. Although his practice includes clients in a variety of industries, he places an emphasis on the representation of health care providers (both for-profit and not-for-profit) and investors, especially those involved in the long term care and senior housing industries, as well as lenders to the health care community. He has represented numerous clients in complex acquisitions, mergers and financing transactions, including tax-exempt bond financings.

Mike serves as the Chair of two practice teams within the health care group at BABC: Long Term Care and Senior Housing, and Certificate of Need. He is active in a number of professional and civic organizations, including the Tennessee Health Care Association and the Tennessee Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. In addition, Mike has served for many years as the Tennessee representative to the Legal Committee of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (Chair, 2004-05) and is a frequent speaker at seminars sponsored by the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Health Care Association, the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and numerous Tennessee groups. Articles written by Mike have been published in various legal and professional forums.
Mike is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee, Florida and American Bar Associations. He also belongs to the American Health Lawyers Association, National Association of Bond Lawyers and the American Society of Law, Medicine, and Ethics. Mike is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® 2009 for health care law, Mid-South Super Lawyers 2008 for health care law and the Expert Guide to the "Leading US Healthcare Lawyers."
In addition to his health care-related endeavors, Mike is active in his church, Woodmont Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he is the immediate past chair of its Board of Directors and currently serves on the Board of Elders. He also is an active sport balloonist and has been nationally ranked among pilots participating in hot air balloon competitions around the southeastern USA. Mike has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Mid-South Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association for several years, and currently serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Chapter.
