Wendy Mullins is Special Counsel in the Corporate and Securities group and practices in the firm’s Jackson office. There, Wendy devotes her time to assisting companies as they develop and commercialize their intellectual property assets through the negotiation and drafting of software development and licensing agreements, service agreements and the protection of those assets with confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements. Wendy’s work in this area compliments her corporate practice which focuses on helping companies with their business transaction projects including mergers, stock transactions and asset sales or purchases, as well as the peripheral tasks associated with such transactions including lease renegotiations, vendor transition issues and due diligence activities. Wendy’s clients also call upon her to assist with a broad range of contract negotiation & drafting projects as well as to provide guidance on entity formation, organization & governance issues.
In addition to law firm experience, Wendy gained significant insight into the interaction of law and business “in the real world” during her eight years in-house with SkyTel Corp., a wireless communications company then wholly owned by Verizon. As General Counsel for SkyTel, Wendy managed a team of lawyers responsible for the legal matters pertaining to the nationwide SkyTel business as well as its interaction with its publicly traded parent company. While many of the tasks performed at SkyTel mirrored the work performed previously in the law firm setting, being a part of the management team provided Wendy with a heightened appreciation for and understanding of the constraints businesses face when working with outside counsel.
After many years as the client, Wendy retains a realistic understanding of the needs and expectations her clients have of their lawyer. Because of this experience, Wendy strives daily to be viewed by her clients as an integral member of their business team, and is therefore often at the table with her clients providing guidance all along the lifeline of their projects, not just the lawyer called in to paper the deal.
