Matthew C. Lonergan

Matt practices almost exclusively in the area of labor relations and employment law on behalf of management. In his career Matt has represented companies throughout the country in the areas of collective bargaining negotiations, grievance and arbitration, employment discrimination litigation in both federal and state courts, the National Labor Relations Act, wrongful discharge, wage and hour law, and other employment-related areas. Matt is also experienced in ADR, mediation and has served as a mediator in employment litigation matters.

Matt spends a great deal of time consulting with our management clients in identifying potential legal issues and resolving day-to-day management and operational issues.

Matt’s work for clients includes a wide variety of industries, such as health care, hospitality, automotive manufacturing, construction, engineering, architecture, food services, restaurants, government contractors and industrial maintenance. Matt has handled employment cases across the country including in Tennessee, , Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas. Matt’s labor relations work includes advising companies on union organizing campaigns, election strategy, unfair labor practice charges, collective bargaining negotiations, strikes and other work stoppages, injunctions, arbitrations and management training.

Matt is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee (Labor Law Section), Texas and American (Labor and Employment Law Section) Bar Associations, and a Fellow of the Nashville Bar Association. Matt is included in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business 2009, The Best Lawyers in America® 2009 and Mid-South Super Lawyers 2008 for his labor and employment practice. Matt is the Vice-Chair of the Firm’s Marketing Committee and Co-Editor of the Labor and Employment Newsletter.

Matt works on behalf of employers and companies across the country. He has handled all aspects of labor relations work and labor related litigation in a large number of states across the country. Matt has served as lead counsel in employment cases in Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, and is well versed in ADR procedures. Matt represents employers in the following industries: Automotive, Hospitality, Health Care, Food Services and Construction.

Matt serves as Chair of the Staff Parish Committee at West End United Methodist Church, Nashville Tennessee. He is an avid golfer and a former rugby player, and an enthusiastic fan of “Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins” on the Food Network. Matt enjoys the water and walking his Labrador Retriever, Duke.
